As well as video game store GameStop, Redditors also invested in movie theatre chain AMC. That makes each of these vintage Spider-Men a vintage company that recently shot up in value.

We’ll admit to loving a youth pastor joke. What can we say? There’s just so much to wryly chuckle at. To be clear, memes that poke fun at youth ministers are referring to the super keen types – the ones that sit backward on a chair and say, “Let’s put those phones away guys.”

This hilarious tweet imagines that a youth pastor would use the GameStop situation to teach their young flock an important lesson. And they are 100% correct.

Our next hilarious meme features Twitter celeb @CaucasianJames, who has 1.4 million Twitter followers and parodies aspects of American culture. In this hilarious set of pictures, James poses in an office, taking on the persona of a serious investor.

We particularly enjoy the dull color palette of these pictures, and the socks and sandals combo. Naturally, the internet has already cut James’ face out of these snaps and stuck his serious expression on top of some others. Hey, there’s nothing like hybrid memes.

True TV fans knew Chris Pratt long before his appearance as the bulked-up Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy, and way before he was a dinosaur tamer in the Jurassic World franchise. Before the muscle-bound Pratt of today, there was the softer, dorkier Andy Dwyer – the useless but sweet office boy from Parks and Recreation.

For some context, this movie is based on a 2007 memoir by former stockbroker Jordan Belfort. The investor engaged in fraud and corruption, though the movie revels in the hedonistic world of Wall Street.

For lots of internet users watching this prank unfold, the easiest thing to make sense of it all was this Leonardo DiCaprio movie.

Here’s another GameStop meme that uses the black comedy crime movie The Wolf of Wall Street to poke fun at Reddit’s sudden interest in trading. In the movie, this particular scene shows DiCaprio’s character cold-calling someone and convincing them to invest in a so-called high tech company, named Aerotyne. In reality, the company is worthless.

As the firm’s employees look on in admiration, DiCaprio successfully closes the deal. Naturally, social media users had to make the comparison.

There have been a bunch of revolution jokes over the past few years. Due to climate change, various international issues, and ongoing financial woes, many people – especially the younger generation – feel like they can’t continue in the system we already have. Instead, these folks want to stand up and be heard, and see some significant change in return.

Hilariously, this tweet puts GameStop at the center of the upcoming revolution. Hey, nobody expected it, but we’ll take it.

Amazingly, as this Twitter user points out, GameStop’s slogan is “Power to the Players.” Coming off the back of our previous post about revolutions, this makes the video game chain a pretty great symbol for the power of the little people.

And with a story like that, and a tagline already built in, the movie does basically write itself. We just need to attach a strong director and a diverse cast, and we’ve got a hit on our hands.

In 2019, actor Joaquin Phoenix stepped into the shoes of Batman’s nemesis, The Joker. Previously played by actors like Heath Ledger and Jared Leto, Phoenix’s down and out villain was different, and struck a chord with internet users and meme-makers the world over.

In this scene, the disgruntled civilian announces he’s going to become the Joker, and then embarks on a path of spirited destruction. In this amended version of the scene, the villain decides to become a broker instead.

Obviously, as well as making memes and Wolf of Wall Street references, a bunch of people have been making jokes about GameStop’s actual name. Think about it – the company name has the word ‘Stop’ in it, so there’s bound to be some jokes and puns because of that.

Indeed, this person comments that the chain’s name is ironic when ‘the Game has only Just Begun.’ We love the idea of thousands of Redditors cracking their knuckles and settling in for more.

The star of our next GameStop meme is RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant Trinity the Tuck. This drag queen and recording artist starred on season 9 of the reality competition series and returned for the fourth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars.

In this popular gif of the artist, they comment that they don’t know what they’re doing, “but girl, I’m livin.’” There’s no wonder this has become a common reaction image, especially in the context of GameStop.

Lots of the memes and jokes made about GameStop relied on the fact that no one really understands the economy. Because our collective grasp on the situation is so vague, people could make posts like this one and successfully confuse even more people.

This picture was taken prior to the GameStop Reddit situation and shows eager gamers waiting in line for a new drop. However, presented like this, it does look like people are clamoring to buy shares in the chain store.

A Bug’s Life is an underrated Pixar movie. Released in 1998, the movie follows a colony of ants who are forced to work all day to provide food for a group of dominating and nasty grasshoppers. At the movie’s climax, the hardworking insects band together and overthrow their rulers, realizing that together they’re stronger than the larger bugs.

It’s not a stretch to compare this computer-animated kid’s movie with “this whole GameStop thing.” Obviously, Wall Street are the grasshoppers. For the colony!

In the aftermath of the GameStop affair, plenty of investors were pretty angry about what had gone down. This didn’t really make sense, because Redditors had done exactly what investors usually do. They hadn’t acted illegally, and they were also playing the market in order to make money.

How could we even talk about this subject without mentioning one of the original stockbroker movies? Long before Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill played crooked investors, Michael Douglas and Charlie Sheen starred in 1987’s Wall Street. In fact, Douglas took home the Academy Award for his turn as the ruthless Gordon Gekko.

In the critically acclaimed movie, Douglas’s character comments that “Greed is good.” Fast forward a couple of decades, and Wall Street doesn’t have the same thing to say about Redditors.

Again, this meme mocks the fact that there’s one set of rules for top investors, and a different set for everyday people. According to the reactions and rules put in place following this incident, top firms can make strategic purchases, but Reddit users can’t. What’s the deal with that?

This meme uses the classic confused Pikachu face to illustrate just how shocked Wall Street billionaires were by this situation. This reaction image has been around since 2018, and hopefully will be around for much longer.

Here’s another meme about how the outdated and fairly unpopular video game store GameStop will be looked at by other top companies. Against the glossy tech corporations and top international firms, the lowly GameStop shuffles in like the least popular kid at a high school party.

In reality, though, GameStop would be carried into a party on one of those stretcher type thrones, carried by a hoard of roaring Redditors. Trust us, GameStop doesn’t need the popular kids!

Daughter of Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson, actress Dakota Johnson is no stranger to memes. The Fifty Shades of Grey actress has featured in various hilarious gifs and clips, and famously called out Ellen DeGeneres on her talk show.

These images originally say “I love limes, I love them,” and then “I’m actually – I’m allergic to limes.” These screenshots were taken 9 months apart, and are used to illustrate completely contradictory ideas. In this case, top investors are Johnson – they say they’re into deregulation, but not when the Redditors come.

This is a bit of an old-school tweet, as it suggests that pretty people aren’t particularly bright. However, we’ll interpret it as saying that people interested in the economy are ugly, because that just pokes fun at super rich investors.

We do like this tweet as a response to all sorts of things though. “No, I don’t wash dishes, I’m pretty,” or “No I won’t work late, I’m pretty” are excuses we could get behind.

In this image, we have The Simpsons Monkey Knife Fight meme, with Reddit and Wall Street as the respective monkeys. This image is from a 2000 episode of the classic animated sitcom The Simpsons, where Homer captains a ship to international waters and an organized monkey knife fight takes place.

Seven years after the episode aired, a YouTuber used the clip in a mockumentary on “Monkey Knife Fighting,” and six years later, it was first posted as a reaction image.

Since the GameStop situation, these screenshots from a 2006 episode of sketch show Wonder Showzen have been making the rounds. In the show, a child named Tamara confronts Wall Street investors, asking them hard-hitting questions about their chosen career.

Starring Adam Sandler – an actor more known for his comedic roles – this film followed a Jewish-American jeweler struggling with debts. The same can be said of the market, especially because it’s based on the actions of a fairly small group of people. Plus, while people mock astrology and horoscopes, they treat the economy like it’s watertight.

While you might think you’re just looking a low-quality picture of a rather buff man, you’re also looking at a popular meme, known as “Shadowy Buff Guy in a Doorway.” This image was originally posted by bodybuilder Lexx Little, who wanted the meme treatment. The internet obliged, using the image to suggest that he’d gone into his parent’s room in the middle of the night.

In this example, shadowy buff guy is telling his mom that he’s off with his Reddit pals to take down Wall Street.

For some reason, the word “stonks” is unbelievably funny. This has been true since it was first released into the world in a 2017 meme. “Stonks” is an intentional misspelling of “stocks” and is used in this image to show somebody that doesn’t really understand the economy.

The character here is known as Meme Man, and is regularly used in weird edits. As you can see, Meme Man is a poorly made avatar with a 3D head, and is also the mascot of the Facebook page, “Special Meme Fresh.”

One of the best ways to make fun of someone is to suggest that they want their mommy. This is even more true when you want to make fun of “serious” businessmen, or other people who pretend to be more important than everyone else.

Wall Street’s double standards are pointed out yet again here. It’s seen as completely normal for top firms to make investments, but totally outrageous when everyday people do. The only thing to do is get mommy to fix it.

Who doesn’t love a SpongeBob SquarePants meme? This image set comes from the season 1 episode “Home Sweet Pineapple,” when Squidward wakes up and realizes SpongeBob is sleeping beside him. As shown by the grumpy octopus’ veiny eyes, he’s feeling pretty shocked and horrified.

This hilarious image spread like wildfire online and is used as a common reaction picture across social media platforms. As with many of our other memes, this one pokes fun at bankers’ overreaction to the GameStop prank.

However, if you make one slight typo in your search, this could lead you to some truly shocking and hilarious results. However, if you dare to miss out on the “s” in “cast,” you are likely to be directed to a bunch of funny images, like this one. There seems to be a perfect feline match for every GOT character.

What good is a bathtub if you don’t have a plug to have a successful bubble bath in? These small devices make all the difference when you just want to bathe away and not just have a short shower.

But you know what won’t prevent the water from leaving the tub? That’s right folks, a pug. In this case, you will need both a pug and a plug to capture the following Google images.

In theory, you think that a shoe designed to fit the theme of a bird would be pretty elegant and sophisticated. And yet, the first results that show up on Google search when you type in “bird shoes” are pretty horrifying, to say the very least.

Thankfully, this person wasn’t deliberately searching for such things. They were actually looking for bird shows, which makes a lot more sense when you think about it.

Remember those ghastly things that all kids used to play with around the turn of the millennium? You know, Furbys? These peculiar electronic, furry toys apparently needed tender, love, and care in order to “survive.”

They would cry if they were hungry and would crave attention at the drop of a hat. Thankfully, someone accidentally searched for “Cut Furby” instead of “Cute Furby” and the results were glorious for Furby hates around the world.

It seems like pumpkin spice hot drinks are all the rage at this moment in time. Starbucks certainly has their own versions of this flavor and you are likely to be able to find a drink with pumpkin spice in it in every other cafe in the world.

If you are a fan of the Star Wars film series then you will probably get the reference. If you are familiar with the image of lightning shooting out of someone’s fingertips then you will most likely associate this with The Emperor.

But it’s not just Sheev Palpatine who can electrocute people with his hands. It seems like there are images on Google of a cat doing it too. Type in Tesla Cat instead of Tesla Car, and you’ll find her.

Of course, dragons don’t actually exist. But the Komodo Dragon does. It is the name of a lizard that is native to a number of Indonesian islands. Not to be confused with the Kimono, which is a traditional dress worn in Japan.

This person made the classic mistake of confusing Komodo with Kimono. The end result was something pretty bizarre but we must say, we’re tempted to buy a copy and plaster it all over our walls!

Looking up techniques of how to stay fit and working out methods are some of the most well-search things on Google. After all, it is imperative to stay active during times like these, especially when one’s ability to get out of the house can be limited at times.

It’s not just humans who work out, you know. We don’t actually think that this bat is doing pushups in this photo. But it looks like he could be and that’s good enough in our books!

One of the classic games to play with friends when you are stuck at home and seriously bored is Battleship. There are also online versions of the game so it’s no surprise that may will search for this game via Google.

While many search accidents on this list are pretty easy to make, you really have to go out of your way to replace “ship” with “sheep.” We can imagine that cute, wooly creature, running around the battlefield and bleeding all over the place.

It’s not just ourselves whose weight we get concerned about. We also get worried when we feel like we have been feeding our cat a bit too much food and to put it bluntly, they look a little worse for wear.

So it’s not that surprising that many people type “overweight cat” on Google search to try and find answers to provide their feline friends with a healthier life. Apparently though, “overweight car” produces very different results.

It is no secret the cats have an abnormally high level of sophistication that we’ll never be able to understand. So when people start dressing up their feline friends in weird and fantastic attire. Take this cat, for example, who looks like they could slam down the gavel at any moment.

All this person wanted was to look up the Civil Rights Act, but was completely taken off guard when he swapped the “a” and the “c” in “act” by accident.

If you were a teenager during the turn of the millennium, there is a chance that you may have gone through an emo phase. One thing that definitely isn’t just a phase is the existence of cows. These wonderful creatures provide milk and are delicious as steaks (if you eat meat).

We don’t know if there would ever be a universe where a cow sports a classic emo fringe and stars listening to bands like My Chemical Romance, but maybe stranger things have happened?

This is not the first Pokemon Google search fail on this, but there is a chance that it might be the last, and for a good reason. Sure, Pikachu and the gang are a whole lot of fun for kids. And card games like poker are enjoyed by many adults around the world.

But when you combine them? Not so great. This is more like the punchline to a terrible dad joke as opposed to a simple search accident.
