Buying your first home is a big event in almost everyone’s life. But along with this amazing feat, you often find a ton of issues that you never thought you would have to deal with. Some of them are epic and could potentially have you asking yourself, “Why did I think this was a good idea, again?” Don’t believe us? Check out these images that homeowners shared of their home disasters that are simply too much to handle.
Leaning on an Elm
We cannot even imagine how we would react if we pulled up into our driveway and saw this. For sure, there would be some colorful words and a sense of dread. How does something like this happen?
Not only that the porch is gone, but it looks like some sinkhole has swallowed the better part of the house! We just hope there was no one in the house when this happened!
There are a lot of people who own cabins in the mountains so they can enjoy spring and summer in a cooler climate. When they are done for the year, they have to shut it up, and there is a laundry list of things they have to do to ensure everything is fine when they return.
If we were this person, we would do a double check next year because they messed up. Big time! Imagine showing up to this at the start of your holiday? It would make us so sad!
We don’t know about you, but when we are in the safety of our own kitchen, the last thing we think about is protecting our lives. But maybe we all should start because clearly bad things can happen.
How this set of cabinets ended up making this mess is a question we would be asking our contractor! We can’t help but think about all the money this person is now going to have to spend to clean up this mess!
Having extra space to store your stuff is fantastic. But only if the place can be reached without the threat of bodily harm! We feel so bad for this woman right now. On the other hand, if she had listened, maybe she wouldn’t have found herself in this predicament.
Also, why is it only drywall being used as the floor that people will be walking on? That doesn’t seem like good planning! This person was lucky it was just their foot and not the rest of their body!
There are some parts of the world where the windows stay locked and sealed in the wintertime. If you ever wondered why, this picture might give you the answer you have been looking for.
This is definitely not a warm and friendly office to work in, at least for the next couple of hours or maybe days. To clean this all up will be a big nightmare, we are sure!
No matter what field you work in, when you are starting out, a few mistakes are bound to be made. But hopefully, they are not as big as this gardener has perpetrated. If we were these homeowners, we would be so mad!
We would be mad only at the gardener but also at their boss for allowing them to work without supervision while taking care of our lawn. Someone would be getting free landscaping for quite a while!
Many crime fiction shows show you a murder scene in which an outline of a person is marked in white chalk. This is what we thought of first when we saw this image. We don’t know if that is funny or sad, though.
Spraying a room with a fresh coat of paint can really spruce up a home. But you have to make sure everything has been picked up. Otherwise, you might end up like these people with unique art designs on your floor!
Minding My Own Business
It is always nice to add a houseplant to a room. It adds a little color and can help filter the air in that room. But you have to be careful where you place it because it could lead to some pretty significant damage.
We hope that no one was on the toilet when this happened! If they were, we are sure someone is pretty mad! Not only that, but this poor owner would have had to deal with a concussion and find a way to fix the toilet!
There are a lot of people out there that work on building their strength. But few think they are doing it so they can wreak havoc on their own homes. This person must have been pretty embarrassed when this happened.
We would be mad but try to play it off like it’s funny, but when we were alone, we might just cry. After we are able to get into our home, that is!
Painting can be fun and a good way to add a little more character to your home. But it is also easy and can end up getting everywhere. This is why we suggest you remove everything from the area.
Of course, our words of wisdom are too late for this person, but next time they will know better, right? But, if you look on the bright side, they got a new wardrobe thanks to their DIY project!
It is not a huge deal that someone forgot their soda in the freezer, and it exploded, but it can be pretty annoying. This is especially true if it is your home, and you are going to have to clean it up or replace the appliance.
All we know is whoever did it is the one that is going to be tasked with the cleanup. At least, that is how we would handle it!
Any person that has rented or owned a house has had that moment when they heard a strange sound from downstairs. The first question is, “should I go down or call the cops.” We hope that this person opted to investigate before they used their phone.
If they don’t, they are going to be pretty embarrassed. Our only other question is how something like this happened? This could have been a much more serious situation, so we are glad it happened at night!
Come On In
Many of us have pets that we consider part of the family. This often leads us to try to figure out how to make them feel just as comfortable in our homes as we do. This person answered this issue with a quick DIY project!
Unfortunately, it didn’t go as planned. We wonder if maybe moving the hinges would be a good solution to this problem.
There is a saying that when bad things happen, they happen in threes. So this person should probably lookout for one more problem to happen in their home. However, this looks like a big enough of a problem!
Also, maybe they should start doing some sort of cleaning or something because you really don’t want to step on broken glass shards! And we all know that brings seven years of bad luck!
Should We Worry?
When you own a home, there are tons of safety features you look for. These things like smoke detectors and fire alarms can save you and your family in an emergency. But this homeowner probably should think about replacing these systems.
We would be so worried that no one was aware that the home had a faulty smoke detector. In fact, we would probably move to a hotel room until this got fixed!
In the middle of the night, your mouth can get dry, and all you want to do is get to the kitchen to quench that thirst. But if we were stumbling around half-awake and this happened to us, we would have woken up really quick!
Maybe this refrigerator was old, and it was time to replace it. If not, we would be on the phone to check what our warranties cover! Fingers crossed that their warranties covered this!
When you are a homeowner, sometimes there are improvements that you dream of doing. Oftentimes, you know about them even before the papers have been filed. So when you get to do it, then you are super excited!
That is unless, because you are trying to save some money, you hire someone that does this. We would be so upset because this is not going to do what it was intended to do at all!
Sometimes the failures are not yours but rather of the homeowners before you. If we were this homeowner, we would have been pretty upset when we saw this in our crawlspace. We would not feel real secure for sure!
Who thinks that this is a good way to keep your foundation balanced? probably, one one. This is why we suspect that it was part of a failed DIY project.
When you are looking for a home to buy, almost everyone would want to make sure it has a good heating and cooling system. But this person must have forgotten that because they missed this big issue. How can you have a bathroom with such a small vent for heating?
We think this is the worst place not to have access to heat or cooling! After all, how uncomfortable is it to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night when it is freezing!
Though no one is going to get hurt in this homeowner failure, it is certainly something that is going to cause a problem down the road. Though we may understand that working in limited space is sometimes expedient, there is still no reason to do this!
Maybe someone should have pointed out that they could have placed it along the longer wall. If they had, then it wouldn’t be so uncomfortable to sit on!
We think that someone took the industrial look a little too far with this one. This is a failure waiting to happen if you ask us. After all, the ceiling is so low, and having easy access to this duct could be dangerous.
On top of that, this kitchen might look pretty nice if it wasn’t for this giant silver tubing drawing all your attention to it, right!
Privacy Is a Must
The bathroom is one of those rooms where you want as much privacy as you can get. But not being able to c is taking that just a little too far. Besides, this probably is pretty awkward when it comes to actually using the room.
We would be upset if we had to straddle the toilet just to do what we came there to do. Wouldn’t you feel the same way?
With YouTube and all the other video websites, there are a lot of homeowners that think they can do some projects on their own. But there is a reason there are professionals out there when it comes to things like this!
If we were this person’s significant other, we would be questioning our choice when we saw this. And then, we would kindly suggest to start looking for an expert, or a new partner.
Nowhere to Go
When you are renovating an older home, you might not have the space to do everything you want to do. This is when you call in contractors, and the project becomes a little more complicated. That is what we would do, but this person thought differently.
This pipe here seems to be an accident waiting to happen. What do you think? How long will it be before they are dealing with a flooded basement?
Electricity is something that we would never play with without some sort of experience. After all, one wrong move, and you are on your way to the emergency room. But not all of us have that fear, it seems.
With the tape and placement of this electrical work, if there hasn’t been an issue, it won’t be long before there is! Someone should have stepped in to set this person straight before this happened!
Stairs are naturally a place where things can go wrong. Many fail when it comes to homes because of tripping or slipping downstairs. This one, though, will be an epic fail because a whole piece of the step is missing.
We don’t know what about you, but we know that we would be sacred every time we have to walk up and down these stairs. How this passed inspection, we don’t know!
On a hot day, you might rush to the faucet outside to cool off. But we highly advise against that in this case. Because if you’re not careful, you will find yourself in a pickle.
Who thought this was a good place to put the water faucet? Obviously, it was not someone who makes their money doing this type of work. If it was, then they should go back to school!
Use The Space
We all were shocked when in what condition the muggles kept Harry in Harry Potter. But did you ever think about his bathroom? This home failure makes us think of that, and it seems like it would be pretty uncomfortable.
This is definitely a big fail when it comes to putting in a new bathroom. It is simply a bathroom for the kids because a normal-sized adult would leave the room with a neck crick for sure!
There are little things that homeowners often replace to make their homes feel cozier. But if you have never done it, you should check and double-check your work before you commit. Like door handles.
Not being able to lose a door, though not life-shattering, is a big fail. If we were this person, we would never ever admit that this was our handy work.
Watch Your Step
There are just some things that are a given. One of that things is that there needs to be a floor under a door so that no one would hurt themselves when exiting the room. It looks like this homeowner didn’t get that memo!
This is going to be one epic fail the first time the homeowner has a party; we see lawsuits in their future! Or, at the very least, a few trips to the emergency room!
It is always nice to make additions to your home, but they can end up being quite a disaster and a big failure if you’re not careful. For instance, this homeowner wanted to add on a garage but forgot to make sure that the driveway met the bottom of the door.
But, at least it is a failure that can be fixed pretty easily. We just hope that they didn’t think they were all done when they finished this part of the project!
Typically when a homeowner looks to expand their floor plan, they try to keep to the original design. Of course, it is really up to the homeowner, but if you’re not careful, you might end up with a disaster that looks like this!
We would never be able to walk past this house without staring and pointing. Maybe that’s just us, but we don’t understand the idea of what they were going for!
Make It Fit
Making changes is a good idea when you’re a homeowner. Not only will it help the house feel more like your own, but it will also help boost the worth of the house. That being said, the market value will only rise if the changes make sense and are done well.
This is a good example of what not to do! Who decided that a Tetris door was a good idea? Any contractor would have shot that idea down in a second.
What would we do if we looked up only to see our landlord staring back at us from a hole in the ceiling? We would probably scream and then shout some bad words in that direction.
This is especially true if we were in our birthday suit! How the landlord created this disaster is beyond us, but maybe it’s time to reconsider that lease!
Do You See Anything?
The only thing we can think is that thank goodness the windows are sealed well. This may have started out as a natural disaster, but it looks like it is going to turn into a homeowner’s disaster if the water levels keep rising!
How much did it have to rain to have the water levels to get to this level?! If it were us, we would start thinking about moving!
Trying to work the landscaping to a new degree can be challenging when there is stuff that has been there for a while. Like this tree! But it can be done but just not by this person, it seems! This little project has turned into a disaster!
It is not only a problem for the homeowner but their neighbors too! If we were them, we would be pretty darn upset! Plus, this poor tree has had quite a stressful day. We wouldn’t want to upset mother nature in this way!
When you are trying to bring the interior to life, many people choose to do that by adding in some plants. There is a limit as to how many plants you should use in such a small area, though!
This homeowner has not only made a mess but may have become a plant murderer in the process. This person’s only saving grace is that many of the plants were cacti, and they could live through practically anything!
Let the Light In
Choosing a place to build a home is difficult enough. You have to choose a place that is spacious enough and fits your personal style So for someone who is into nature, being surrounded by trees might be a good choice.
However, that could end up being a disaster too. This person must have been pretty surprised when the roots of this tree busted in like they came to life and were attacking them!
When you park your car in your driveway, you never consider that something like this could happen. You might worry about someone throwing a ball and taking out a window, or if you’re in the wrong neighborhood, someone stealing your car.
But having your house crumble and fall on the car is not even a thought. We would be so mad and a little worried about everything else we have in and out of the house. There is someone they can call to figure out what happened, right?
When you leave your home, you are usually pretty confident that everything will be the same when you get home. Especially if there have been no signs of any issues starting, but to come home to this, we would be crushed.
Not only because there is a leak, but laptops are not cheap! We are sure that this one will have to be fixed if not replaced! Who has the money for that and a home repair?
